gridComm and G Element Named Top Smart City Innovators in Vietnam Smart City Innovation Challenge
gridComm and G Element receiving Vietnam Smart City Innovation Challenge Top Winner Award
Hanoi, November 14, 2017 – The Mekong Business Initiative today announced that gridComm with G Element has been selected the top Smart City Innovation Challenge company as part of Vietnam Smart City Innovation Challenge Nov 12-14 in Hanoi, Vietnam. Based in Singapore, gridComm provides the IOT (internet of things) systems and devices that make smart cities smarter with networked street lights, connecting street lights, sensor networks and smart buildings. G Element provides a 3D smart city platform that unifies diverse city sensor systems to make cities easier to monitor and manage.
As one of the 15 shortlisted companies selected and invited to showcase in Vietnam, gridComm presented a smart city solution in collaboration with G Element, in front of the Steering Committee for Smart Cities, various local authorities of cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Hoi An (Quang Nam) and extended audience of industry leaders, technologists and investors within the region.
The integrated gridComm and G Element smart city solution uses sensors to monitor and control street lights and traffic lights. The system allows operators to control the street light brightness, and be notified when the street lights and traffic lights malfunctioned, thus reducing power/energy usage and improving traffic management. The system can also be integrated with CCTVs installed around the city to give a city wide surveillance, improving public security.
“We are excited to have participated in the Vietnam Smart City Innovation Challenge. Smart street lights are a critical enabler to Vietnam’s plans to make its cities into smart cities. This recognition by Vietnam smart city leaders validates gridComm’s significant opportunity in helping cities save millions of dollars in electricity costs and enabling city-wide sensor connectivity,” said K. H. Jen Managing Director, gridComm. “We are already starting towards our first smart street light installations in Vietnam”.
“We are excited to win this prestigious award with gridComm,” said S. W. Yeow, Managing Director, G Element. “This innovation award underscores the need for cities to be smarter through adopting smart systems and integrating these systems for powerful city situational awareness and analytics.”
“gridComm addresses a key need for smart cities and has a compelling offering. Together with our partners, we will assist gridComm in establishing a beachhead into Vietnam market.” said Michael Yap, CEO of TNB Ventures. “We congratulate gridComm for emerging as the winner of a very strong field.”
The Smart City Vietnam Demo Day was organized by MBI in cooperation with The National Agency for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Development (NATEC-MOST), HCMC Department of Science and Technology, Da Nang Business Incubator (DNES), Vietnam Angel Investor Network (iAngel) and Vietnam Software Association (VINASA).
About GridComm
gridComm makes Smart Cities Smarter with networked street lights and then uses that network to connect IOT sensors throughout the city. Simply open the street light door. Install a gridComm controller. Do this 100,000 times in a city and you have a smart city with connected street lights. Each contains our module with a gridcomm chip that communicates data across the city’s power lines. We then connect thousands of sensors to measure weather, pollution, traffic with the measurements over our street light control network. For more information, visit www.gridcomm-plc.com
